Patients and relatives who come to Istanbul from other parts of Turkey for treatment usually ask the same first question: Where can I stay near the hospital? Surgery, chemotherapy, follow-up appointments or waiting outside intensive care can take days, sometimes weeks. On this page we have listed Istanbul's major state, city and university hospitals side by side; next to each hospital you will find its map and a nearby hotels link. First check the free or affordable guesthouse options, then the hospitals.
Know This First: Companion vs. Relatives
- The companion (refakatçi) is the single person who stays with the patient in the hospital room; permission to stay depends on the doctor's decision.
- Most hospitals have no place to stay for relatives other than the companion. For example, Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital states on its own website that it has no guesthouse for relatives other than the companion.
- Be sure to visit the hospital's social services unit. Depending on your situation, they can refer you to municipal, foundation or association guesthouses.
- Appointments are made through MHRS (182); do not book long stays before your treatment schedule is clear.

Practical Tips for Staying Near a Hospital
- Measure the walking distance on the map. A hotel that looks "close" can take 30 minutes because of a motorway or a hill. A hotel near the rail system is often more practical.
- For long stays, an apartment or a room with a kitchen protects your budget; buying food from the hospital canteen every day gets expensive.
- Choose flexible cancellation. Treatment dates can shift and the discharge day is rarely known in advance.
- Ask the hospital about evening visiting and companion change times and plan your return to the hotel accordingly.
- Hospitals in Fatih (Çapa, Cerrahpaşa, Bezmialem) and around Üsküdar-Haydarpaşa are close to each other; staying in these areas gives you easy access to more than one hospital.
