Kilic Ali Pasha Complex

It is located in Tophane Square. It is a small complex consisting of a mosque, madrasah, tomb, fountain and bath. It was built by Mimar Sinan in 1581 by the Admiral Kılıç Ali Paşa, also known as Uluç Ali Reis. It is one of the last works of Mimar Sinan in his old age. According to the story told among the people, Kılıç Ali Paşa, who asked Sultan Murad III for a place to build a mosque, was told to build the mosque by the sea because he was the Admiral. Therefore, he had the sea filled with soil and had the mosque built on its shore.

There is a fountain with eight marble columns and a dome in its garden. The mosque, which is a developed example of the plan of Hagia Sophia, is in a perfect rectangular shape. A 16th century sailor's lantern hanging from its dome was removed to the Naval Museum in 1948.

A single-balcony minaret rises on the right. The tomb belonging to Kılıç Ali Paşa is in the garden of the mosque and in the direction of the qibla. There is a fountain on the side of the garden wall facing the street. The bathhouse is on the right side of the mosque and is still used today. The madrasah is located on the sea side of the bathhouse.
