Tophane Pavilion: Opened Its Doors to the Public After 172 Years

Shining like a mysterious jewel among the greenery, Tophane Pavilion has been opened to the public for the first time in 172 years. Tophane Pavilion, which I turn my head and look at with admiration every time I pass by, which I have photographed countless times, and which fascinates with its Baroque architecture and green tones, has come to life again after restoration work.

Built in 1852 by British architect William James Smith by Sultan Abdülmecid, this structure was used by the sultans when they visited the military facilities in Tophane or to welcome foreign statesmen who came to the city by sea.

The pavilion draws attention with its elegant decorations on its exterior, the baroque-style projection details on the second floor, the hand-drawn ceiling decorations and marble fireplaces. This structure, which is the symbol of Tophane Square, is located between Nusretiye Mosque and Tophane Fountain, right in front of Galataport.

Today, Tophane Pavilion welcomes its visitors with the photography exhibition “A Look from the Past to the Future” and can be visited free of charge every day except Mondays between 10:00 and 17:00 until December 31, 2024. An unmissable opportunity to discover this historical place among the greenery!
