It was completed in a short time of 139 days. The three large towers of the fortress have the largest bastions in the world.
The construction of the fortress began on April 15, 1452. The division of labor was made and the construction of each section was given to a pasha, and Fatih Sultan Mehmed himself undertook the construction of the section facing the sea. When viewed from the sea, the construction of the tower on the right side was supervised by Saruca Pasha, the construction of the one on the left side by Zağnos Pasha, and the construction of the tower on the shore by Halil Pasha. These towers also bear the names of these pashas. The construction of the fortress was completed on August 31, 1452.
Rumeli Hisarı is currently used as a museum and open-air theater. There is an open display in the fortress, there is no exhibition hall. Artifacts consisting of cannons, cannonballs and a part of the chain said to have closed the Golden Horn are exhibited in the garden.
Rumeli Hisarı is also a district of Sarıyer district of Istanbul. It is also known as the place where concerts start in the summer season of each year.
