Baroque Masterpiece, Nuruosmaniye Mosque

Nuruosmaniye Mosque is one of the important mosques of the Ottoman Empire built in the 18th century, located in the Eminönü district of the historical peninsula of Istanbul. Its construction was started in 1748 by Sultan Mahmud I on the second of the seven hills of Istanbul and was completed by his brother Osman III in 1755 after his death. Its architect was Mustafa Ağa and his assistant Simon Kalfa (Architect Simeon). It is a completely original and unique baroque masterpiece with its three-dimensional stone ornaments, unmatched even in world architecture. It has a single dome surrounded by thirty-two windows at the base. The most striking element in its interior ornaments are the lines on its dome and walls. It has two minarets with two balconies. Stone finials instead of lead were used for the first time in these minarets. There are more than five thousand manuscripts and printed works in the Nuruosmaniye Library.
