Another feature of Joshua Hill is that it is the highest hill in Istanbul and the closest to the sea (200 meters). From the top, the Bosphorus is under our feet in all its glory.
Joshua Hill is the closest and highest hill to the shore on the Bosphorus. The Joshua Mosque and Joshua's Tomb are located at the summit of this hill in a magnificent location overlooking the Black Sea and the Bosphorus at the same time. This place has been considered a sacred place since the early periods of history, and various civilizations have built the temples and shrines of their religions here.
During the Ottoman period, a mosque was built on this hill in 1755 by Grand Vizier Yirmi Sekiz Çelebi Zade Mehmet Said Pasha (D. 1761). This person, who was one of the grand viziers of Osman III, also had a masonry wall built around the tomb here, which is popularly attributed to the Prophet Joshua, and appointed a tombkeeper and officials to maintain the tomb, and had rooms built for them.
The fact that the tomb attributed to the Prophet Joshua is 17 meters long has always been one of the questions that has occupied people's minds. There are 3 comments on this subject.
He is a prophet, such a long and large grave may have been built because of the respect and love felt for him.
Since the place was found through a spiritual discovery, it may have been kept wide and long with the thought that it would be accurate.
The meters-long grave of Prophet Joshua can also be understood as the merging of the "giants" that were believed to live on the peaks of mountains in very old beliefs with another belief... Because another name for this hill is "Giant Mountain".
Prophet Joshua is from the lineage of Joseph (pbuh) and is a contemporary of Hz. Musa. The historical and mysterious journeys of Hz. Musa and Young Joshua to "the place where the two seas meet" and their meeting with Hızır (pbuh) there are narrated in the Quran in verses 60-65 of the Surah Kahf. It is understood from the narrations that the young man next to Hz. Musa is Hz. Joshua. Hz. The belief that Joshua is buried on Beykoz Joshua Hill has become widespread and famous, mostly because of the spiritual discovery of Suleiman the Magnificent's foster brother Yahya Efendi (1494-1570), whose tomb is located in Beşiktaş.
Another feature of Joshua Hill is that it is the closest and highest hill to the sea in Istanbul. (200 meters) From the top, the Bosphorus is under our feet in all its glory. In the vicinity of the tomb, it is possible to come across places selling religious books, as well as shops selling gözleme, köfte and bread. Plenty of candy and chocolate are distributed.
