The house in Beşiktaş where the famous poet Tevfik Fikret lived between 1906 and 1915 now serves as the Aşiyan Museum. Purchased by the Istanbul Municipality from Tevfik Fikret's wife Nazime Hanım in 1940, the house was opened to visitors in 1945 under the name Edebiyat-ı Cedide Museum.
Tevfik Fikret's remains, previously in Eyüp Cemetery, were moved in 1961 to this garden, whose natural beauty the poet admired, and from then on the museum took the name "Aşiyan Museum".
The museum's name comes from the word Aşiyan, meaning "nest" in Persian. Tevfik Fikret himself drew the plans of the house and gave it this meaningful name.
You can visit the Aşiyan Museum free of charge between 09:00 and 17:00 every day except Mondays.
