Haydarpaşa Train Station

The station was built to replace another train station that previously existed here. Construction began in 1906 during the reign of Sultan Abdul Hamid II and was completed two years later. The architects were Otto Ritter and Helmuth Cuno. Haydarpaşa Station also served as the starting point of the historic Hejaz Railway.

The building has a "U" shaped plan and consists of five floors. Each floor has offices arranged along a corridor. There are towers at both corners of the sea-facing facade. Very few of the original ornamental decorations on the ceiling have survived to this day. Some of the stained glass windows were also broken during a tanker accident that occurred in 1979.
