Abdulfettah al-Baghdadi al-Aqri was born in 1778 in the town of Aqra, near Mosul. He memorized the Qur’an at a young age and excelled in religious studies. Later, he dedicated himself to the Sufi path and became one of the most distinguished students of Mawlana Khalid al-Baghdadi, a prominent Sufi master of his time.
Following his teacher’s guidance, Abdulfettah al-Baghdadi set out for Istanbul. It is said that he walked all the way from Baghdad to Üsküdar, symbolizing his spiritual devotion and perseverance.
Today, his tomb stands on Nuhkuyusu Street in Üsküdar, serving as one of the most revered spiritual landmarks on Istanbul’s Asian side. Locals regard him as one of the three greatest saints of Istanbul, and visitors often describe the site as a source of calm and inner peace.
The tomb is just a 15-minute journey from Üsküdar center.
