Istanbul Forest Entry Ban 2026: Access Restricted Until October 15

Istanbul Forest Entry Ban Announced: Restrictions in Effect from June 8 to October 15, 2026

The Istanbul Governor’s Office has announced new measures to reduce the risk of forest fires during the summer season. According to the official statement, entry to forested areas across Istanbul will be prohibited between June 8, 2026, and October 15, 2026.

Officials noted that the number of visitors and vehicles in forested areas increases significantly during the summer months, which raises the risk of wildfires. To help prevent potential fires, a series of restrictions will be implemented throughout the city.

What Is Prohibited?

Under the provisions of the Turkish Forest Law and the Provincial Administration Law, the following activities are prohibited in forest areas during the restriction period:

  • Entry into designated forest areas
  • Lighting barbecues or campfires
  • Using gas stoves and similar equipment
  • Smoking hookah or any activity involving open flames
  • Any action that could increase the risk of forest fires

Authorities will conduct inspections to ensure compliance with these measures.

Recreational Areas That Remain Open

The Governor’s Office clarified that many designated recreation areas, nature parks, urban forests, and ecotourism zones are exempt from the restriction.

Visitors can continue to enjoy activities such as picnicking, walking, hiking, and outdoor sports in approved areas.

Popular Areas Exempt from the Ban

Some of the most popular locations that remain open include:

  • Polonezköy Nature Park
  • Parkorman Nature Park
  • Bentler Nature Park
  • Avcıkoru Nature Park
  • Ayvatbendi Nature Park
  • Çilingoz Nature Park
  • Elmasburnu Nature Park
  • Mihrabat Nature Park
  • Şamlar Nature Park
  • Göztepe Nature Park
  • Göktürk Pond Nature Park
  • Kanuni Sultan Süleyman Urban Forest
  • Ümraniye Urban Forest
  • Aydos Urban Forest
  • Mimar Sinan Urban Forest
  • Üsküdar Urban Forest
  • International Urban Forest

In addition, many forest parks and recreation areas located in Şile, Çatalca, Arnavutköy, Beykoz, Çekmeköy, Eyüpsultan, Sancaktepe, Sultanbeyli, and Tuzla will remain accessible to visitors.

Aimed at Preventing Wildfires

Turkey has experienced an increasing number of forest fires in recent years due to extreme heat and dry weather conditions. Authorities emphasize that picnic fires, cigarette butts, and uncontrolled flames are among the leading causes of forest fires.

The Istanbul Governor’s Office urges residents and visitors to follow the regulations and avoid any behavior that could threaten natural areas.

The restrictions will remain in effect until October 15, 2026, as part of the city’s efforts to protect forests and prevent wildfire disasters.
