Anadolu Hisarı is located where the Göksu Stream flows into the Bosphorus. It was built by Yıldırım Bayezid in 1395. Fatih Sultan Mehmet had outer walls added to this castle while he was building Rumeli Hisarı. Anadolu Hisarı lost its military importance after the conquest of Istanbul.
Its surroundings became a residential area over time. Anadolu Hisarı consists of an inner and outer castle and the walls of these castles. Since there was no entrance door when it was first built, the tower was entered from a suspension bridge extending to the inner castle walls. The upper floors were accessed from the wooden stairs inside.
Today, a road passes through the middle of Anadolu Hisarı, some parts of which are in ruins.
